Project Kingfisher Proposes $66.2 Million Wilkesboro Investment
A proposed economic-development project in Wilkesboro could bring as much as $66,166,398 in machinery, equipment and real-property improvements to the area over seven years.
Known publicly as Project Kingfisher, the proposal also calls for approximately 167 new full-time jobs over seven years. Public notices say the jobs would pay wages above the average annual wage in Wilkes County.
Public hearings are scheduled
The Wilkesboro Town Council is scheduled to consider the town’s economic-development activity on November 2, 2026. The Wilkes County Board of Commissioners has scheduled a separate public hearing for November 5 at 5 p.m. in the new Wilkes County Government Building at 298 County Office Drive.
The county notice says the proposed agreement would provide annual appropriations to the company for seven years, conditioned on capital investment and employment commitments under the county’s economic-development policy.
What is not yet confirmed
The public notices do not identify the company. They also do not establish that the incentives, construction or job creation have been finally approved or completed. The figures are proposed commitments that remain subject to public hearings and government action.
Residents should be cautious about social-media claims naming a company or promising immediate property-value increases. Any housing, traffic or commercial effects will depend on the project receiving approval and meeting its investment and hiring commitments.
